    Toy Tokyo

For a nostalgic journey into the past, head to this 2nd-floor toy emporium. The narrow warren of rooms hides all sorts of icons from previous decades. You’ll find Superman watches, scowling Godzillas, shiny Transformers, painted toy soldiers and action figures from all genres. As per the name, Japanese toys are particularly well represented – an essential destination for all Japanophiles.

    Stella Bella

If you would let them, kids could play all day at Stella Bella. Toys are strewn across the floor in the designated play area, and kids are busy building blocks, making music and reading books. Even parents can’t keep from playing (the challenge is keeping them in the designated play area). Stella Bella is especially strong for creative and educational toys and games.

    Magic Beans

Both kids and parents agree that Magic Beans is a well-stocked, superfun toy store. Both kids and parents appreciate the selection of wooden toys, educational toys and creative toys. Both kids and parents like the designated play area. But only parents rave about the selection of strollers, which is apparently among the best in the city.

    Toys ‘R’ Us

Sure, you have one of these at home, but this super-size Toys ‘R’ Us is its greatest bastion, with three thematic floors including a huge video-game area downstairs, an alley of stuffed animals and a 60ft-tall indoor Ferris wheel. Just avoid it like the plague before Christmas, when all hell tends to break loose here.

    Time for Children

A place where you can feel good about buying for the kiddies, Time donates 100% of its profits to the Children’s Aid Society of New York. The small store sells adorable clothes for babies and toddlers, colorful books and plush toys, block sets, handmade cards and other treasures for the under-10 gang.
