Lonely Planet review for Flying Fish

Still the reigning king of fish dishes in Seattle, or at least in Belltown, Flying Fish is a reliable spot for seafood. Combine several small plates, share a platter of oysters, or go with a main dish, such as yellowtail with eggplant and soy ginger sauce, or monkfish in coconut peanut sauce. The dining room is bustling and energetic, the service friendly and top-notch. The menu changes daily depending on what’s fresh.

this place is now called Local 360. Not Flying Fish anymore.

    mastermonkey does not recommend this,

I went there today with Mom walking all the way from the Pike's Market. Quite a disappointment. The place looked clean, but not appetizing. We did not go in.

Flavors take off at Flying Fish

    everest1969 recommends this,

Flying Fish is in Seattle's restaurant district, Belltown.

To start we chose a terrific bottle of King Estate, which partnered well with the Thai crab cake starter, and the crispy calamari my partner ordered.

If the wine had proved a good match for the starters, it was an even better pairing for the salty crusted tuna and risotto cake with Asian-style sauce and bok choy. The portions were generous and we savored every bite, because the food was so damned good!

When our waiter returned to take our dessert order, I said, "We'll have the brownie and the cheesecake - we're just going to put them both in the middle of the table and fight it out."

The desserts arrived just as we were finishing our wine, and they looked great. We approached with care from both sides and dipped into the flourless brownie, soaking up some sauce and nicking the scoop of ice cream on the way to our mouths. It was unbelievably good. And it was served with a chocolate/vanilla shortbread cookie, which added a whole other dimension of crunchy buttery goodness.

We wondered how the cheesecake could compare, but it did. It was created with a ginger biscuit crust, served with poached pears, and throughout the filling was a cacophony of spices. "It tastes like Christmas," my partner said.

The check came as we sat in blissful silence with two more empty plates before us.

Flying Fish is the brain child of Christine Keff, who creates a new menu daily to reflect the fish and produce which is fresh that day. While not an entirely new concept, Flying Fish does it so well. The menu is highly creative, diverse and extensive. So, next time you're in Seattle, check it out.

    Bon appétit!
