Lonely Planet review for Salumi
Sure, you’ll have to wait in line. This is Mario Batali’s dad’s place, after all. But the line to get a Salumi sandwich is like its own little community. People chat, compare notes, talk about sandwiches they’ve had and loved…it’s nice. When you finally get in the door of this long, skinny shopfront, you’re further teased by display cases of hanging meats and cheeses. Sandwiches come with any of a dozen types of cured meat and a handful of fresh cheese on a hunk of bread – you can’t go wrong. There’s only a couple of seats, so be prepared to picnic. On Tuesdays, family members hand-roll gnocchi in the window.

quality is king
schrockt recommends this,
If you are a restaurateur, pay close attention to how things are run at Salumi, an oasis of Italian style artisan cured meats, cheeses, and breads. The sandwich shop is only open Mon-Thurs from 11-4, and the line is out the door all day every day. One might ask why they don't expand their business hours or the capacity of the restaurant to ensure bigger profits, but that is not what Salumi is about. A true passion for food is more important than money in this shop. The attention to detail in the sandwiches is unparalleled and quality trumps quantity. Anthony Bourdain said that this is his favorite eatery in Seattle, and for good reason. Imagine all the mind-blowing food joints in Seattle they beat out for this title! So please take the time to wait in line and treat yourself to the full, bold flavors that Salumi has to offer, and feel free to encourage the staff that their place is a breath of fresh, delicious air in regards to quality over quantity!

Get off the subway
donavank recommends this,
Salumi is a one of a kind sandwich shop. I was told to get there early and be prepared to wait and sure enough, there was a 25 minute wait. But for hand cured meats and amazing recipes it was worth it. I split the salumi sandwich with a friend which fed us both. The staff was fast and friendly even stopping to give us directions to get to Vancouver. I would definitely recommend this place for food lovers and people who are tired of going to subway. I am a vegetarian and I made an exception here. There isn't many places to sit but take your sandwich and walk around pioneers square.
