Bizzarro
With a name like Bizzarro you’d never guess that this Wallingford hotbed is an excellent neighborhood Italian cafe. When you learn that it’s actually someone’s garage crammed with kitschy art and weird antiques, the name makes sense. Deliciously buttery pasta dishes, a good wine list and frequent live music add to the experience.

Pink Door Ristorante
Beloved for its atmosphere at least as much as its food, the Pink Door is an old-school favorite – on a nice evening, stopping for dinner and drinks on the deck overlooking the market is hard to beat. The menu is traditional Italian, and the vegetarian lasagne comes highly recommended.

Madame K’s
An elegant red-and-black pizza parlor with an old bordello feel (the building was once a brothel), this small, chic place is packed out for dinner. It’s also a popular place for drinks and desserts. There’s a really nice patio out back, or you can let history repeat itself in the upstairs dessert room with a decadent ‘Chocolate Chip Orgasm’ ($7.50).

Serafina
This lovely neighborhood restaurant in Eastlake specializes in Tuscan-style cooking, with simply prepared meat and fish as well as pastas that can be ordered as a first or a main course. A gorgeous, leafy deck area behind the restaurant now doubles as the entryway to Cicchetti, Serafina’s new sibling. Reservations are recommended.

Il Bistro
At this atmospheric Italian café, the best and freshest of the market is incorporated into daily specials. Il Bistro’s red lighting gives it a gangster-movie feel; the Godfather would no doubt kill for the roasted chicken or the saltimbocca alla romana (veal cutlets with prosciutto and sage).
