Panama Hotel Tea & Coffee House

Housed in a historical 1910 building that contains the only remaining Japanese bathhouse in the US (tours are available), this beautifully restored space doubles as a memorial to the neighborhood’s Japanese residents who were forced into internment camps during WWII. The owners found trunks full of left-behind belongings in the basement of the old hotel and have put them on display. Historical photos line the walls, and a glass window in the floor offers a peek at the building’s secrets.

    Teahouse Kuan Yin

For a switch from the coffee shop routine, the Teahouse Kuan Yin has an impressive selection of black, oolong, green and herbal teas, as well as all the paraphernalia you need to enjoy a pot of same. It’s open later than most coffee shops and has wi-fi and good desserts.
