We didn't invent long-term travel with children but we did add considerably to the subject. Back in 1996-97, when Google was still a dream, we launched an educational travel project that included our children attending school via the Internet to a charter school located in MI. As part of that project, we built a Web site to document our adventure. www.blondins.com We have left that site vintage 1996-97 for historical and sentimental reasons.

Family travel is the BEST & an amazing education for tomorrow's 21st century global citizens!

We have been traveling the world as a family non-stop for 5 years with no plans to stop! We travel and live luxuriously on just 23 dollars a day & much of our trip so far has been in "expensive" Europe! We've been to 4 continents, 32 countries, over 200,000 miles overland so far & plan to add another 10 countries & a continent this year as we head to Asia.

We have written a TON about family travel on our Soultravelers3.com website & have had over 3 million views of our Soultravelers3 Youtube Channel if you want to know and see more.

I've done single, couples, 3 generation, group & about every other kind of travel, but think long term family travel is the best by far! Go for it!

We are in the midst of planning our 12 month backpacking trip on a budget 'with 2 kids in tow'--our girls will be 5 and 3 when we leave on 26 jan 2011! We plan to spend our time in SEA, covering Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, South India, Sri Lanka, and China. My husband and I have done RTW backpacking before and have always dreamed to taking our children along with us. We know it will be hard at times, but definitely believe that it will be worth it.

We started our research on the 'Kids To Go forum through which have been in touch with many great families who are or have been, out there doing it and have lots of stories and advice to share. The Lonely Planet, 'Traveling with Children and Babies' publication has been really useful too!!

    Wish us luck!!
