Lonely Planet review for Escape from New York Pizza

The Haight’s obligatory mid-bender stop for a hot slice. Pesto with roasted garlic and potato will send you blissfully off to carbo-loaded sleep, but the sundried tomato with goat cheese, artichoke hearts and spinach will recharge you to go another round.

    Fast Pizza

    samdecon recommends this,

On a trip to San Francisco, I asked friends for the best pizza place in town. And decided that Escape From New York Pizza, a local pizza joint right around the corner is the best.

Upon entering the building, we were bombarded by the tempting smell of garlic, tomato sauce and fresh dough. As you can probably judge by the name, they tout their pizza as being the finest. As we sat next to a family with young children, I almost choked on my water as we started reading the drink menu.

The pizza was absolutely delicious. The combination of corn meal crust, zingy tomato sauce and pesto combination were outstanding. By the look of the empty pan, I assumed the men agreed with their choice.

Wanna pack in some calories after a big dance night?

    vetiwitch recommends this,

What is more delectible, than a thin, but huge slice of Escape from New York Pizza, to soak up the beer and gin and tonics. To fill you up after a night dancing. I have lived in the city for 21 years and their pizza is still the best in my opinion. If you are vegetarian, they always have hot slices with multiple veges, or cheese, or of course the roast potato, garlic pesto slice. For some reason the potato pizza, always makes my saliva jets fire at the same time, just the memory right now gets my appetite afire. MMMM, not for the faint of heart or the birdy anorexic. Come here, pick a slice, find a 60's inspired, parmesan scattered table, and a wad of napkins, you will need them. Enjoy, and sleep well.

You Say Potato Pizza = Nirvana

    sfkatya recommends this,

You Say Potato Pizza is absolutely AMAZING! I've been coming to EFNY for years now and, though I always try to branch out and try new pizzas, none has made such an impression on me and kept me coming back for more, like You Say Potato. It has pesto for the sauce, lots of delicious cheese, very thin slices of potatoes (which become just a tiny bit sweet in the oven), and lots of whole garlic cloves sprinkled all over. Plus, the slices are huge, so once slice can easily keep me going for a while.

I've been to three different EFNY locations, but I'm reviewing this one especially because I got the greatest caesar salad the last time I was here. Certainly not a healthy meal, but a slice of potato pizza and a caesar salad is one of my favorite cheap meals in the City.
