Lonely Planet review for Rainbow Grocery

The legendary cooperative attracts masses to buy eco/organic/fair-trade products in bulk, drool over the bounty of local cheeses, and flirt in the hemp-based skincare aisle. To have your questions about where to find what in the Byzantine bulk section answered, ask a fellow shopper – staff can be elusive.

    I love Rainbow.

I have said that statement so many times. "I love Rainbow".
I remember when rainbow was tucked into a tiny space at 15th an Mission. Those days are long gone, after they moved onto Division and Folsom. Rainbow gave birth to itself, a haven for cashiers with blue hair, septum piercing's, tattoos, wild tossed dreadlocks.

Rainbow is the most well stocked store for every kind of health food and accessory known to human kind. Their vitamin and supplement dept, is massive. Here you can obtain anything you could ever desire. Bulk shampoos, cleansers, makeup, essential oils, and yes even condoms.

Rainbow has a wonderful bulk foods section, with every grain, and flour, granola, and flour known to the organic vege world. Miso's in bulk barrels, olives for every taste, want oil? they have it. Pressed this, dried that, its here. Organic wine and beer they have it too. Cheeses to melt the palate, ready to go snacks and meals for every taste bud, and a produce section full of freshly picked fruits and veges to tempt us all.

The part that makes rainbow really wonderful is that it is worker owned. People who I have known who have worked there over the years, get paid decently, with good benefits for their whole family.

I support Rainbow as it has everything I could want for my food and home. The community notice board has found me a home many a time over the years, and a great place to meet old friends and have a chat over the fresh baked goods.. For anyone coming from out of the country, Rainbow is surely worth a visit, its mind blowing to see how it can really work well for everyone.
