Lonely Planet review for Red's Java House
All the cheap diner classics you'd expect from a waterfront shack that's been dishing out hearty fare to dockworkers and the terminally hung-over since 1812: restorative greasy-spoon breakfasts, double cheeseburgers, chili cheese fries, even a deli Reuben on rye a New Yorker wouldn't refuse.

A Salty Gem
dropthesci recommends this,
The food is fast and greasy and the beer is cold, but that's not the point. Stashed in the shadows of the Bay Bridge amidst a line of nameless Piers, the charm is what brings you to Red’s. While a term not often used to describe such a salt-shaker-sized shack, Red’s has charm in the way your grandpa’s hand painted wooden fishing lure looks lying in your tackle box next to the synthetic airbrushed ones.
While only a homerun swing away from AT&T Park, Red’s is able to compete with the myriad of trendy upstarts the Giant’s ballpark has sucked into its orbit by remaining humble and relinquishing none of it’s briny allure. The cheap burgers and dogs along with the elbow room you’ll find on the back patio only complement the view across the bay of Oakland. Let’s just say a chili dog and a bucket of beers on the right day in July has left more than one baseball fan arriving at their seats somewhere around the 4th inning.
