A Boho North Beach holdout on Washington Square Park, Mario's gave up smoking in the 1970s and turned to piping-hot panini. The oven-baked onion foccacia sandwiches are satisfying but mostly a pretense to people-watch while glugging wine by the carafe and pints of Anchor Steam served by art-schooled wait staff.
