Throw some of the pennies you save into one of the waterfall-fed ponds inside and outside this expansive hotel. This chain is one of the best buys for quality on the conveniently located, if a little glamour-less, Hotel Circle in Mission Valley.
You choose a hotel like this for its centrality and convenience, and as a bonus you get some verve. The rooms (there are 416 of them) are comfortable; balconies overlook a heated kidney-shaped pool. Here, guests nest happily in lounge chairs under the sun (which always shines in San Diego, in case you were wondering), and a large whirlpool spa ('therapy pool') sits off to the side. The hotel embraces a Polynesian theme. The palm trees, koi-filled ponds and birds of paradise might not be enough to convince you that you're on Oceania's isles, but it may be enough to relax you into vacation mode nonetheless. On site are three restaurants and a barber shop, and massages and other spa treatments are available. The hotel also offers free shuttles to some area sights and transport centres.
