Rocky Mountains

Sporting Good shopping in Rocky Mountains

  1. A

    Wilderness Exchange Unlimited

Although it's easy to spend some serious cash at the enormous REI just up the street, it's worth looking into Wilderness Exchange Unlimited before you put down the plastic. In addition to carefully selected outdoor equipment, this shop has an impressive collection of quality used gear (including good deals on hiking boots and down jackets) in the basement.

  2. B

    Ouray Mountain Sports

This is a full-service ice- and rock-climbing shop where you can buy and rent gear for dangling off ropes in perilous conditions. They service your equipment too - sharpen your ice-screws and tweak your crampons. Topographic maps and guidebooks are stocked, and advice on local sites and routes is given.

  3. C

    Radio Boardshop

On the shortlist for the coolest shop in Aspen, this place does stylish top-shelf skateboards and snowboards, and sells the gear, shoes and boots to match. It's a mom-and-pop store with style to spare. Unfortunately, it doesn't rent snowboards but does rent skateboards at great prices in the summer.

  4. D

    Outdoor Outlet

A brilliant business plan and an eager staff make it hard not to cheer for this shop of over-stock outdoor gear. The selection of ladies equipment, cycling apparel and casual clothes might be a bit mismatched, but when you find something that fits, the price is right.
