Glacier Park Boat Co
Glacier Park Boat Co information
Six historic boats – some dating back to the 1920s – ply five of Glacier’s attractive mountain lakes, and some of them have the added bonus of combining the watery ride with a short guided hike led by interpretive, often witty, guides.
One of the best excursions leaves from the Many Glacier Hotel twice daily (July to September), chugging across Swiftcurrent Lake. Groups disembark on the southern shore and stroll to Lake Josephine where another boat whisks you to another landing; from here your guide leads you a further 2.4km (1.5 miles) overland to Grinnell Lake for wondrous glacial views.
A similar boat-hike combo can be undertaken on Two Medicine Lake, which marries a 45-minute cruise with a 3.2km (2-mile) walk to double-flumed Twin Falls. On St Mary Lake, boats departing from Rising Sun incorporate a 1½-hour cruise with a longer 4.8km (3-mile) hike to St Mary Falls.
