5 Non-Sweaty Reasons to Visit Colorado
Blog: Vagabond3 - 27 April 2011
I’m an active guy, but I’ve always been hesitant about visiting the Hippie states. You know, the handful of states within the US that are so outdoorsy that word ‘free-gan’ emerged. I’m talking really athletic people, who recycle, and know the names of tree species. Colorado is a Hippie State. Don’t get me wrong, I like a hike, but I also like a movie, a coke, and a sit. So,...

And The Award Goes To…(2010 Edition)
Blog: thebeergeek.com - 2 October 2010
Saturday dawned at the Great American Beer Festival with the gusto of having burned the candle at every possible end for the previous two days. Neither of us was anything approaching bright-eyed and bushy-tailed but there was a light at the end of tunnel. We were only going the member’s session on Saturday then flying [...]

It’s What We Do
Blog: thebeergeek.com - 29 September 2010
We couldn’t travel to Denver without visiting a few new breweries. It’s what we do. Plus, with the year winding down, I wanted to pick up three or four to help with our goal of reaching 600 by year’s end. The problem is that the eastern slope of the Rockies is well traveled territory for [...]

Left To My Own Devices
Blog: thebeergeek.com - 25 September 2010
It was that time of year again… the pilgrimage of beer geeks from all over the world to Denver for the Great American Beer Festival. Merideth and I were going for the third year in a row with the added bonus of our friends from beermenTV coming in from Australia to join in the fun. [...]

USA Road Trip Day 3: Denver > Omaha
Blog: Dotted Route - 27 August 2010
The Washington Park area of Denver is throwback to my memory of Solano Avenue in Berkeley. Parking at a 45 degree angle against the street, quaint little shops, and loads of interesting restaurants.

With our hotel room package came a ticket for the spa. So guess what I went to do first thing in the morning? I went to soak in a jacuzzi at 8am in the morning. So the spa had an attendant, showers, shaving station, hair styling station, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, and pressure shower.

New beergeek.TV Episode – One Ounce at a Time

Despite our whining about the one ounce pours, the Great American Beer Festival member’s session is now a highlight of our beer year. Beyond the vast beer choices, GABF is the one time of year where most of our beer friends from around the country gather in one place. Good beer, good friends… that’s what [...]

I got to being curious about which hotel was used for the opening shots in Kubrick’s cinematic version of ‘The Shining’ (The Stanley in Estes Park near The Rockies, that I visited yesterday, was King’s inspiration for the book and also used in the 1997 mini-series) and strangely enough it’s The Timberline Lodge in Oregon, [...]

Smeggy sulphate
Blog: Send The Bugger Back - 19 May 2009
Man it’s hot. Denver is quite an elevated City so there is less vapor in the air and it shows. A golf ball goes 10% farther but so does an alcoholic drink, the Lord both giveth and taketh away eh. That bar was pretty good yesterday. Unlike the self declared dive bar in San Diego [...]

5:24 am and we’re somewhere in Utah I guess. I’ve awoke to the unusual view of mountain silhouettes towering high against the downtown lights of some city, it makes it look like toy town. Very cool looking. Sleeping is taking place in a unusual manner as although these are roomy comfortable seats (and I have [...]
