Lonely Planet review for Outdoors Geek
This mom-and-pop gear outfitter is a lot friendlier to deal with than fighting through the mobs at REI. It works like this: you call and talk to Will, who puts together a package of top gear for hiking and camping and either ships it to you or arranges a time for you to pick it up at his Aurora distribution center.
This personalized service, along with high quality goods, is the reason we love the Outdoors Geek. Also, the website is perfect for novice campers as well, with tips that will help dispel the anxiety of getting out into nature for the first time.

Awesome, friendly service!! So glad I found this company!

I hiked the AT for the first time with my husband and group of friends this month and I'm so glad we rented from Outdoors Geek. Will was so helpful getting our group ready for our trip and giving us tips on proper gear, apparel, and food. They shipped us all our items on time and in great condition. I was happy to see that the backpacks and camping equipment were top-notch just like they said and clean. It was a great way to try out items without making a big purchase up front. My first positive hiking experience was definitely due to the helpful people at Outdoors Geek.

A great way to try out gear. Very helpful.

Recently returned from a backpacking trip in Colorado (hell yes!), outfitted by Outdoors Geek. In the past, I was able to mooch the necessary gear, but that's not convenient anymore. I am also tired of using ill-fitting equipment, so I decided I needed my own.
The trick with backpacks, tents, etc. is that it's hard to know what you like until you've used it. Then I discovered Outdoors Geek and their Try It! deal which is unequaled on the internet as far as I know...Rent new or like-new gear at competitive prices; try it out; send it back if you aren't in love; buy it at a discount if you are.
On my trip, I learned quite a bit about my gear preferences. When I got back, I called up Will, and we talked about what would be best for me (amongst other things; fun guy to talk to). He went as far as to set up a tent for me and take pictures to answer a question of mine. He also transferred my Try It! deal to a different backpack and paid all the shipping.
Overall, a great experience that left me with some quality gear! I will be revisiting Outdoors Geek for future trips and highly recommend them to my fellow outdoorspeople.

A perfect place to rent gear for large groups

I can't say enough positive about Will and Corina at Outdoors Geek! Recently I led a group of 25 students and adults from my church on a week long trip into the mountains near Leadville, CO. Will went out of his way to help me every step of the way. This was my first time to lead our group myself without paid guides, and Will did everything he could to make sure that it would be successful and safe for everyone. I'll comment on the gear in just a minute, but first, I want to highlight all of the conversations I had on the phone and via email with Will in which he gave me guidance about trail and campsite selections, about different needs a group of my size would have, about trail conditions as we neared the date of our trip, etc. He truly went far beyond any expectations that I had for a gear outfitter. He is knowledgeable and friendly, and he doesn't mind sharing his expertise in order to make your trip successful.
Now, about the gear ... it was top notch stuff. All of the gear that Will provided our group was in wonderful condition (like new!), and it met our needs perfectly. We have been on trips into the mountains several times, so our students have experience with backpacks and tents, and they commented over and over about how great the gear was this time. Will provided us with backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, stoves, fuel for the stoves, cookware and cups, water filters, spades, and all of our food. Other than our clothes, it was everything we needed for the mountain; and it was an extremely reasonable price.
We happened to be begin our trip not far from Will's home base so for a small fee he met us on the way to the mountains. He and Corina are old pros at passing out the gear and in a very short amount of time they had everyone situated with their gear, and he had given instructions on how to use the stoves and water filters for all of our novices.
One thing to note about Will is that he is not pushy about getting you to rent gear. There were items that I asked about renting; he would tell me that he would rent them to me if I felt most comfortable having them, but he also let me know when he thought I would be okay without them. You can trust him to be honest about your needs, and you can feel confident that he will not try to get you to rent or buy something just to make an extra buck.
Anytime I have a needs to rent gear for my family or for a large group, I will be going to Will at Outdoors Geek for sure.

Perfectly outfitted for 4 day backpack trip w/ Outdoors Geek
stuartjc recommends this,
Went on a 4 day backpack trip with 16 guys in CO and 10 of us used Outdoors Geek (OG) for all our gear. Tent, sleeping bag & pad, backpack, stove & fuel, H2O filter, shovel, dehydrated food, bear canisters, power bars.....everything. After arriving at Denver airport, drove 20 minutes to OG and got all the guys fitted and geared and ready for the long weekend. Went smoothly considering how time consuming preparation for 4 days in mountains can be. Great gear. Very clean. No problems. Great option for those who don't want to spend $1000+ for all their own gear. Loved Collegiate Peaks Wilderness near Buena Vista!!!!
