  1. Photo of the Day: Maroon Bells – Aspen, Colorado

    Blog: Trans-Americas Journey - 19 May 2012

In 1965 eight climbers died on the two peaks that make up the Maroon Bells in five separate accidents. Since then the Forest Service has referred to the Maroon Bells (both peaks are above 14,000 feet/4,267 meters high) as the Deadly Bells.  Despite the macabre nickname, the Maroon Bells, near Aspen, are among the most photographed destinations in Colorado.  This shot was taken from Maroon Lake.        Related posts: Our Latest Work: Dunton Hot Springs, Colorado Photo of the Day: Mount McKinley, Alaska Photo of the Day: Supermoon 2012 – Lake Apoyo, Nicaragua

  2. Street Art in Aspen?

    Blog: Vagabond3 - 17 November 2011

One of the first things I noticed and loved about the small and quaint downtown Aspen area were these huge, larger than life murals painted on old brick buildings. My dad paints signs similar to this (although a much smaller size) in Florida and I’ve always admired the amount of detail and precision that goes into each unique sign. The end result is truly the work of an artist.  And, while these weren’t the...

  3. Best Mexican Food Slopeside

    Blog: Vagabond3 - 21 September 2011

I know what you are thinking, “Mexican food and ski slopes… have my dreams come true?” And, the answer would be yes.  I mean, after I get off the slopes, tired from an awesome day of hitting the snow*, I can’t think of anything else I’d rather put in my belly. Give me a taco, burrito or quesadilla any day over an old bowl of chili. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I get...

  4. …The Kids Aren’t Permanently Damaged

    Blog: Vagabond3 - 18 August 2011

Kids make the best crash-test dummies, they’re flexible, have very little motor control, and their permanent teeth haven’t grown in yet.  So watching kids wipe out, I mean totally eat it, is awesome; there’s all the glory of the hard landing but with little to no permanent repercussions.  Well my friends, Milli Vanilli wasn’t the only awesome can’t-take-your-eyes-off-it train wreck to come out of the 80′s, let me introduce you to mutton busting...

  5. SUP in the Colorado River

    Blog: Vagabond3 - 4 August 2011

Glenwood Springs has built a surfers paradise in the middle of the Colorado River, a perfect wave that cranks 365 days a year/24 hours a day.  It’s man made design allows for several different types of waves across the river, making this whitewater park a great spot for rafting, kayaking, surfing, and even SUP.  On our latest trip to Colorado we got to stop by the Glenwood Springs Whitewater Park...

  6. Snowmass Swings Both Ways

    Blog: Vagabond3 - 2 July 2011

Snowmass may have world class skiing in winter, but I’m convinced that summer is the best time of year to visit this Aspen neighbor. As we explored the Rolling Fork River and hiked into the mountains, this town showed itself to be full of natural, accessible beauty and home to an array of outdoor sports both of which are world class. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dfGCb3Mno0 Our warm June day began with us covered...

  7. The Reinvention of a City’s Spirit

    Blog: Vagabond3 - 28 June 2011

Beyond the rolling green hills and fire red rocks near Aspen, there are several cities begging to be explored. Not through pushy marketing campaigns or loud tourist attractions, but through unique stories and a back to basics living style. I can’t think of a better way to learn more about a city than through its people, whose city pride can be measured in marble. www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3bJIHadyVA Most of the people we...

  8. Connecting Face First

    Blog: Vagabond3 - 28 June 2011

I ate water. I don’t like to admit my failures, but there you go- I got the hard part out of the way first. I guess I should step back and say that I was fighting for bragging rights and maybe step even further back to say that I was taught every skill needed to avoid my spill, but ultimately today began with a benign hotel tour. Our H2O Tour...

  9. We’ll Pass (Goodbye Eldora, CO Hello Gunnison)

    Blog: Trans-Americas Journey - 8 October 2009

During a week of Rocky Mountain Bliss at our friend Marca’s Valhalla cabin in Eldora, Colorado we enjoyed extreme golf cart off-roading (those things are tougher than they look…), speed hiking through three different seasons in a single afternoon, hot tub soaking, 50 mph wind (okay, we didn’t enjoy that so much) an old musical favorite (Galactic played live at the Fox theater in Boulder where we were charged a TicketBastard style surcharge even though we bought our tickets at the venue’s box office) plus a brand new musical discovery.
