Lonely Planet review for University Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology

The University Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology is Penn's magical museum, containing archaeological treasures from ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, the Mayan peninsula, Greece, Rome and North America. Its fragments of Sumerian script are among the oldest examples of writing ever found.

The neighborhood of University City, separated from downtown Philly by the Schuylkill River, feels like one big college town. That's because it's home to both Drexel University and the Ivy League University of Pennsylvania (commonly called 'U Penn'), founded in 1740. The leafy, bustling campus makes a pleasant afternoon stroll

Thousands of years of history inside this sprawling museum!

    mefman00 recommends this,

Here's a fantastic museum on the UPenn campus, featuring unique, irreplaceable artifacts from all over the world. It's a very large building, and a variety of expansive galleries await, with focuses on ancient Egypt, China, Africa, the New World and more. Most days find the museum fairly quiet, with plenty of space to avoid others if that's your M.O. On the flip side, school and summer camp groups are often found scampering through the halls, having an amazing time among these wondrous artifacts.
So there's something for everyone. No excuses, get there and get exploring.
