Lonely Planet review for Continental

A stylized old-fashioned diner, the specialties here are hip crowds, eclectic tapas and specialty martinis - as indicated by the huge speared martini olives that hang from the ceiling.

My husband and I had brunch there and were very dissatisfied

    candidly does not recommend this,

If I had to some up the dining experience I would say it is a lot like eating on an airplane.

    Can't go wrong.

You really can't go wrong with a Stephen Starr restuarant. He sure knows his stuff. Excellent atmosphere, service, and food. When the weather is nice sit outside and people watch.

Continental is Popular with the 30+ Crowd

    teslgoddess recommends this,

Featured on MTV and owned by one of Philadelphia's foremost restaurateurs Stephen Starr, the Continental is one of the long time staples of the stylish 30 and over crowd in The City of Brotherly Love. Both the Old City and Mid-Town City locations offer a delicious variety of tapas style foods and are loaded with a contemporary voguish atmosphere.
All the martinis are decadent, my favorite is the Espresso Martini, "it's the speedball of cocktails". Other martini's I would recommend trying would be the Apple Martini or the classic Cosmopolitan made famous by Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City.
If I were looking to go out on a date as a couple or with other couples I would choose the Mid-Town City location. The menu is larger and there are multiple floors of eclectic sit down dining spaces. If I were doing the singles thing I would go to the Old City location. In Old City the focus is more on drinking and mingling than sitting and eating. The outdoor seating at Continental on a warm sunny afternoon in Old City is my favorite place to drink my Sunday away with Philly friends.
From either location you can stroll along, gaze at the locals, and find other popular nightspots, bars and dance clubs to enjoy.
