Lonely Planet review
This Ritz possesses one of the most lavish lobbies in North America, modelled after the Pantheon. In the afternoon, a formal afternoon tea is held in the rotunda. The 331 rooms are contained in a pre-WWII adjoining tower. Spacious, marble-clad bathrooms feel about as clean as an operating room.
The lobby of this hotel is so nice you'll probably have a hard time leaving it to explore the city. Essentially a scale model of the Pantheon in Rome, the ceremonial space (designed in 1905) is stuffed full of finely carved pilasters and exquisite marble under a huge dome. And though the reproduction isn't architecturally exact, this rotunda possesses qualities Hadrian's equivalent can only dream about: tons of booze (overpriced) and a fabulous weekly chocolate buffet (also expensive, but exceedingly satisfying). Though less breath taking than the Pantheon-lobby, the hotel's guest rooms are well-appointed, comfortable and stodgy. They also come with amazing marble bathrooms. Hotel staffers offer excellent service, and the concierge knows how to knot a tie to perfection.
