Lonely Planet review

Inspired views of City Hall and a position at the centre of Center City make this an appealing choice. Rooms are a bit generic, but some of the hotel's Art Deco character remains alive on the building's facade and elevator doors.

Though this hotel's higher floors have decent views in all directions, we highly recommend that you ask for a suite in the hotel's southwest corner. These have views aimed directly at Philadelphia's Victorian skyscraping City Hall, an explosion of marble from the 19th century that is almost completely encrusted in sculpture. It looks like a huge wedding cake with a statue of William Penn on top. The hotel, part of the Marriott chain, occupies a well-maintained Art Deco building and former bank. Though some of its former design flourishes have been wiped away with time, the geometric incised lines of the elevator doors and colourful terracotta accents of the facade will convince you that this is the real deal. All lodging options are suites, with fully equipped kitchens, foldout couches and bland furniture.
