    Blog: UnpoppedCollar - 16 August 2010

Thanks for the question, Crazyhazey!  I’m nearing my 2nd anniversary of arriving in DC, so I’m happy to provide a couple of recommendations for cool places to check out that are off-the-beaten-tourist-path (afterall, anyone can tell you that the Jefferson is pretty nice).  Here are 5 of my favorite spots to check out (but shhh…don’t tell too many people!)

  5. DC's Jazz in the Garden

    Blog: UnpoppedCollar - 9 August 2010

Sure, people in DC love to complain about how hot and humid it is here in July, but Summers in the District also bring something else: Jazz in the Garden.  Every Friday evening, nearly every twenty-something (it seems) in DC heads out to the Sculpture Garden for a makeshift picnic-happy-hour.  It’s hard to imagine a better way to start the weekend than this.

A few blogs back I introduced you all to some of the very uniquely fantastic jobs that can be found in Spain. One of them was the “mariscadora” (best described as an awesome shellfish digger lady) – a job that I’ve had my eye on for awhile now because I believe I am particularly [...]

  11. The Redwood National Forest in California

Blog: Abandon the Cube - 1 May 2010

I’ve always wanted to go to the Redwood National Forest in Northern California.  While we were out in the Pacific Northwest, we decided that it would be the perfect time to go.  So we packed up the car and picked up some friends in Eugene on the way down. After the Greyback experience in Oregon, [...] Related posts:Mt.

  13. Washingtonians Believe in the End of the World

Blog: Abandon the Cube - 17 April 2010

What better way to spend the Armageddon, then waiting it out safely underground? Apparently I’m not the first person to think of this. Washington State is renown for its end-of-worlders, and recently I met someone who worked in construction, building underground shelters for folks who live in constant fear.

From my family’s home in Washington State you can see Mt. Rainier. It’s one of the most majestic sights on the West Coast at almost 14,500 feet, and is the highest mountain in the Cascade range (and in the continental, contiguous USA).

  16. Back Home Again... After a Long Drive

Blog: Brewster House News - 1 April 2010

From our earlier posts, most guests and readers know that we took a long vacation to attend the Professional Association of Innkeepers (PAII) annual conference in Texas and drive across the country to visit family and friends. We arrived home safely two days ago, and thought we would post an outline of our travels, for those who are curious (or care to travel vicariously).

  21. Lady in Lopez

    Blog: A Lady in London - 7 November 2009

When my brother got married last November my cousins and I tried to decide which one of us would be next. We all ventured a guess, but as fingers were pointed, each of us denied it would be us. The actual answer came sooner than expected; one of my cousins in LA got engaged and planned a September wedding on Lopez Island in Washington.

Everyone loves graveyards! Right? Probably not, unless you’re the The Addams Family.
