    Blog: Ottsworld - 16 December 2011

  4. music, autumn, and a cup of tea

    Blog: Music Road - 4 November 2011

Late autumn, early winter: as the winter holidays and the turning of the year approach, it is a time of many activities, a time of bustle and a time of quiet, a time of solitude and of being with others. It is also a time of year when it’s good to take those moments, expected and unexpected, to have a bit of solitude, or perhaps a quiet loving conversation with a friend.

  5. Lady at a Wedding in Washington

    Blog: A Lady in London - 7 September 2011

Destination weddings have a way of taking me to the Pacific Northwest. A few years ago my cousin’s wedding on Lopez Island in Washington gave me a chance to explore Vancouver and the beautiful San Juans. This time around it was a destination wedding in La Conner, Washington that brought me back to the region. [...]

    Blog: A Lady in London - 6 September 2011

Seattle is one of my favorite west coast cities in the USA. I have been visiting relatives there since I was a child, and each trip brings with it a deeper knowledge of the city and the diverse Seattle neighborhoods. First there were childhood visits to the Space Needle, then teenage trips to the famous [...]

  9. A peculiar paradise in the Pacific Northwest

Blog: La Tortuga Viajera - 5 July 2011

Vashon Island, just a ferry’s ride away from Seattle, is and always will be my ultimate sanctuary. Frozen in time, nothing ever really changes there – not the landscape, not the picture-perfect sunsets, not the row of stationary bikes taking in the view of the water, not even my 92-year-old grandma. Vashon somehow seems like [...]

  12. Birch Bay in Winter – Have You Been Here?

    Blog: Vagobond.com - 23 May 2011

I have some fond memories of Birch Bay, Washington. Not the least of which is doing a Polar Bear swim on New Years day of 1996. Ouch. I was one of the lucky ones that didn't get hypothermia.

Up here in Washington, the Evergreen State, the autumn pallet is not as dramatic as my home state WV. Still we enjoy the splash of yellow, orange and red in contrast to the dark green of the spruce and cedar.

Blog: Travels with Herb - 25 October 2010

It is that light misty rain and sometime you have to hold out your hand to feel it or look on some still water to see the tiny specs hitting. So out to get our walk in. Click HERE to read about the great history, such as the Mausoleum pictured below. We took in a cool sculpture park, the word whimsical sums it up. One of the funnies is when you walk towards an easel with a canvas, as you turn to see the painting, your surprise is a mirror and you are the art.

  24. Fisherman Bay

Blog: Travels with Herb - 22 October 2010

We moved to a moore protected anchorage yesterday as the weather is going to get nasty over the weekend. Here in Fisherman Bay we are well protected from the southerly winds that are predicted to 25 knots. Our cruising guide, Waggoners, bragged about this location as a must see. Sorry, but it gets a low score from us. Actually high for protection at anchor, but low for going ashore. No public dock that we can find, and the "Village" is a bit of a hike when it comes to getting supplies. From our boat it looks like the suburbs, mixed with a quarry and two private marinas.
