South Cascades hotels and hostels
Paradise Inn
A historic 'parkitecture' inn constructed in 1916, the Paradise has long been part of the national park's fabric.
National Park Inn
The pride of Longmire, parts of which date from 1917, goes out of its way to be rustic with no TVs or telephones in the rooms and small yet cozy facilities.
Serenity's
A mile south of Trout Lake on Hwy 141, Serenity's offers four beautifully presented cabins in the woods in the shadow of snow-sprinkled Mt Adams.
Hotel Packwood
A frontier-style hotel with a wraparound verandah, the Packwood ain't fancy but it's authentic – and at this price, who can argue? There are nine varied rooms in the renovated 1912 establishment, two of which can accommodate four people.
Eco Park Resort
The closest full- service accommodation to the blast zone offers campsites and RV hookups, basic cabins and rather incongruous Genghis Khan–style yurts. Shared bathrooms are known as 'wilderness comfort stations.
Blue Heron Inn
A welcome B&B in an accommodation-lite area, the Blue Heron offers seven rooms, including a Jacuzzi suite, in a large house almost opposite the Silver Lake Visitor Center on Hwy 504.
Cowlitz River Lodge
Probably the most convenient accommodation for both Mts Rainier and St Helens, the Cowlitz is the sister motel to Ashford's Nisqually Lodge and offers 32 above-average motel rooms along with the obligatory outdoor Jacuzzi.
Ipsut Creek Campground
This free campground is at the end of the Carbon River Rd and has 12 campsites and one group site. There are pit toilets but no drinking water. Ipsut currently has no road access; walk-ins only.

White River Campground
This 112-site campground is 10 road miles or 3.5 steep trail miles downhill from Sunrise. Facilities include flush toilets, drinking water and crowded, though not unpleasant, camping spaces.
Whittaker's Motel & Bunkhouse
Part of Rainier's 'furniture,' Whittaker's is the home base of legendary Northwestern climber Lou Whittaker, who first summited the mountain at the age of 19 and has guided countless adventurers to the top in the years since.
Takhlakh Lake Campground
Fifty-four campsites with running water and pit toilets are situated here, 25 miles north of Trout Lake on USFS Rd 23.
Nisqually Lodge
With an expansive lobby complete with crackling fireplace and huge well-stocked rooms, this lodge is far plusher than an average motel.

Cougar Rock Campground
Cougar Rock, 2.3 miles north of Longmire on the way to Paradise, has 173 individual campsites and flush toilets. Rangers lead campfire talks on summer evenings.
Seaquest State Park
Directly across from the entrance to the Mt St Helens Visitors Center, Seaquest has 90 campsites, including a separate hiker/cyclist camp area, with flush toilets and showers.
Alpine Inn
Run by Crystal Mountain Hotels, this Bavarian-style inn looks as if it's been dragged across from kitschy Leavenworth on the other side of the Wenatchee National Forest.
Alta Crystal Resort
This resort is popular year-round thanks to its proximity to the Crystal Mountain ski resort (winter) and the Sunrise Lodge Cafeteria and trailheads (summer).
