California Hike

Hi,
I'm going to California in late Septmeber, I'm probably going to fly to San Francisco and drive to LA or LV. I want to do a Hike. I've got good experience and map reading skills, outdoors / survival skills and I'm physically fit (35 years and regular runner / hiker). I'd like to do something unguided, where there is natural beauty and nice scenery. I'd like to go off the beaten track or at least somewhere remote where there is solitude and a bit of adventure, I would like to camp on route…

Hi there,

I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask, but I'm kind of at a loss and figured it wouldn't hurt to try -- I'm Israeli, on medication (Wellbutrin for depression, specifically), and will be spending six months in California as part of student exchange. Wife and I will be arriving in Rapid City on 6 Sept where we will pick up a rental car and spend the night, then continue on to Yellowstone. What we are considering is driving from RC to Jackson Hole then on to Yellowstone where we have 3 nights (9,10,11 Sept) booked at the Old Faithful Inn. Google maps shows two routes from RC to Jackson Hole both taking about 8 1/2 hours. Any suggestions as to which would be the best route? US 18 & US 26W or
I 90 & US 26W. Both meet at Casper…

As an aside, I visited Rocky Mt. National Park two weeks ago. The literature they gave me said that it has 4.1 million visitors in 2015--more than both Yosemite and Yellowstone!

I became depressed when driving Trail Ridge Road (11 miles about treeline) when all I could see were vast dead pine forests due to the pine beetle which has been devastating…

Hi all.

Can anyone recommend a good place to buy a quality three person tent in Seattle? I can't bring mine from the UK due to luggage restrictions.

Many thanks
