Lonely Planet review for Rubin Museum of Art

This is the first museum in the Western world to dedicate itself to art of the Himalayas and surrounding regions. Its impressive collections include embroidered textiles from China, metal sculptures from Tibet, Pakistani stone sculptures and intricate Bhutanese paintings, as well as ritual objects and dance masks from various Tibetan regions, spanning from the 2nd to the 19th centuries. Rotating exhibitions have included the educational ‘The Red Book of CJ Jung’ and ‘Victorious Ones,’ with sculptures and paintings of Jinas, the founding teachers of Jainism. A small cafe serves traditional Himalayan foods, and the K2 Lounge offers performances and cocktails, and is the perfect nightcap after visiting the galleries on free Friday evenings.

    Sounds good but...

    alistnyc does not recommend this,

It sounds good but the Museum falls short. Maybe it's the art, maybe it's the setting or the way it's displayed, but I felt the museum could have been much better. It's great that it has a different focus, but I would say you are better off spending some more time in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
