The place to go to learn about Brooklyn’s past, this 1881 Queen Anne–style landmark building (a gem in itself) houses a library and museum entirely devoted to the borough. Check the website for walking tours (some free) and temporary exhibits on Brooklyn subjects (eg the Brooklyn Dodgers, Gowanus Canal development). If you’re just walking by, note the terra-cotta details outside the building, including eight busts – one of a Viking – above the entrance.
