Vendors at the semi-enclosed Harlem Market, which sprawls across a large lot, do a brisk business selling tribal masks, oils, drums, traditional African clothing, wooden sculptures and other assorted African bric-a-brac; folks staffing the hair-braiding­ kiosks display some fancy finger work, too. You can also purchase cheap clothing, leather goods and CDs and bootleg DVDs. The nearby Malcolm Shabazz Mosque, the former pulpit of slain Muslim orator Malcolm X, operates the market.
