Lonely Planet review for Blue Smoke
Another contender in the city’s ongoing BBQ cook-off, this soulful spot presents a potpourri of various Southern ’cue style: St Louis, Texas, Kansas and Memphis ribs are all representin’, as is pulled pork, smoked chicken, peel-and-eat shrimp and the classic ‘salad’ consisting of an iceberg-lettuce wedge. Mouthwatering mini-cornbread loaves and jalapeño-studded hush puppies are gut-busting sides, and homemade pies and cakes take you down for the count. When you’re done chowing, head downstairs to the Jazz Standard, where pros bust out with blues, folk, rock and jazz.

Yankee Barbaque approved by a Southerner!
strawberry731 recommends this,
As a born and raised Southern, I know my barbaque. I am always wary of what Northerners call barbaque. I went to Blue Smoke off a recommendation, but was still skeptical of what might turn up. Much to my surprise and delight, Blue Smoke was delicious and lived up to my high barbaque standards. Having three styles of barbaque (Kansas, Memphis, and Texas), there is something to please every barbaque lover. If you don't know much about barbaque, get the sampler plate to try all three! The macaroni and cheese is to die for, a must get! Portions are generous, beer selection is good (try the Brooklyn Brewery Blue Smoke Ale), the atmosphere is lively. If you want great barbaque in New York, this is the only place to go.
