Lonely Planet review for Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs

If you eat 'em, this is the place for an all-beef dog with sauerkraut and mustard. A frightening time to visit is July 4, when Nathan's holds a hot-dog-eating contest (the record stands at Joey Chestnut's 68 in 10 minutes).

The best Dog in NY (and the outer boroughs)

    janinemareee recommends this,

It's not just the Dog. It's the stroll along the Coney Island boardwalk, the fun of watching a beach full of sun-loving people without any intention (or option) of swimming, the amusement of the amusement arcade (eg, Shoot The Freak; yes, the Freak is an actual person). But back to the dogs: runny cheese, ground bacon, lotsa mustard. Yes.

    Good for: speed-eaters

    Not good for: vegetarians

    Don't forget the french fries

    aabbey recommends this,

Nathan's is properly famous for it's hot dogs, first hawked on "Con'yiland" by immigrant Nathan Handwerker about 100 years ago, but make sure you don't miss the french fries. My father used to say they were so good because they were using the original oil from the stand's first days. That may not be literally true, but the crinkle cut fries are about the best anywhere. And they taste better when you eat them standing up. If any Nathan's franchises are left - and I don't think there are - avoid them like the plague, but make a beeline for Nathan's Famous when you're visiting Coney Island.

    How many can you eat?

    strawberry731 recommends this,

If you trek out to Coney Island, you cannot miss Nathan's Hot Dogs. It serves up the best hot dog, there is a reason why its famous. Even better than the hot dogs are the corn dogs. For you non-dog lover fans, they have plenty of other options too!
