My boyfriend just mentioned over the weekend how lucky he was to live above one of his favorite restaurants in NYC....Little Giant. A gem below Delancey St in the LES, beyond the mix of hipster and frat boy crowds of Ludlow area, this intersection of Broome and Orchard St feels like a a corner in Europe. Perfect ambiance for a casual late brunch or a romantic dinner. The food is consistently delicious even for the veggie in me and the steak lover I call my boyfriend. For dinner, I get the truffled mushroom salad with cauliflower and a poached egg on top for a starter and the grilled mac n' cheese with taleggio, mozzarella, and mascarpone cheeses, crispy on top with bread crumbs for a main. YUM! My boyfriend starts with the warm spinach dip and leans to the meatier side with "swine of the week" for a main. I always thought spinach dip in general was pretty pedestrian, but Little Giant makes you sneaking licks out of the bottom of the bowl. With an extensive wine selection, you can't go wrong here. Details, details, details.......Little Giant uses produce from local New York farms so everything is super fresh, crispy, big robust flavors! As a native Oregonian, Little Giant touched a soft spot in my heart when I found out they served Stumptown, out of this world coffe from Portland, Oregon. I was ecstatic to find the GM of Stumptown at Little Giant training the barista the delicate art form of pulling a perfect espresso shot, and then enjoying one to top off brunch. Cozy decor with an open kitchen feel, exposed brick walls and a curved brick ceiling, 2 walls of floor to ceiling windows, and bottles of wine along the other 2 walls. I fall in love with this place every time I go (2x/week). A true unpretentious gem in NYC.
