Fronted by a classic red-and-gold awning, this long-time spot channels a 1930s feel – starting with the vintage elevator. As with many old-timey New York spots, the rooms and bathrooms are tiny. But the decor is modern, the staff is congenial and the location couldn’t be more ideal – walking distance from Central Park and many museums.
In addition, wine and cheese is served in the evenings and a robust continental breakfast is laid out every morning. Rooms facing the back are quieter.
