Lonely Planet review
A restored art-deco jewel in the heart of the Theater District, the Chatwal is as atmospheric as it is historic; the likes of Fred Astaire and Irving Berlin once supped, sipped and sung in its Lambs Club restaurant/bar. Vintage Broadway posters adorn the uber-luxe guestrooms, inspired by steamer cabin trunks and featuring suede-lined walls, 400-thread Frette linen counts and cocktail sets for an in-room tipple.
Additional perks include complimentary butler service and use of laptops and preprogrammed iPods, while the in-house luxury spa spells easy-access pampering. The beaux-arts building itself is the work of Stanton White, creator of the Washington Square Arch.
Our independent authors have visited Chatwal New York and selected this as one of our recommended luxury hotels in Midtown.
