Lonely Planet review
A restored art deco jewel in the heart of the Theater District, the Chatwal is as atmospheric as it is historic; the likes of Fred Astaire and Irving Berlin once supped, sipped and sung in its Lambs Club restaurant/bar. Vintage Broadway posters adorn the uber-luxe guestrooms, inspired by steamer cabin trunks and featuring 42-inch plasma screens and 400-thread Frette linen counts.
Additional perks include complimentary use of iPads, laptops and preprogrammed iPods, and there's a luxury spa for in-house pampering. The beaux arts building itself is the work of Stanton White, creator of the Washington Square Arch.
Our independent authors have visited Chatwal New York and selected this as one of our recommended luxury hotels in Midtown.
