Lonely Planet review for Marie’s Crisis
Aging Broadway queens, wide-eyed out-of-town gay boys, giggly tourist girls and various other fans of musical theater assemble around the piano here and take turns belting out campy numbers, often joined by the entire crowd. It’s old-school fun, no matter how jaded you were when you went in.

Sing out, Ethel Mermans!
janeyo recommends this,
Down a West Village side street and down a couple of steps and the basement charms of Marie's Crisis, a dark cavern from the 1880s, is ready for you with a drink and a tune.
Unashamed in its unbridled love of a raucous show tune, this is the place to leave all hipsterdom behind, order up a drink and haul up around the piano for good old fashioned sing song. Don't be surprised if the bar tender gets up and does a number because at Marie's, everyone's a superstar and every flat surface is a stage.
Go at an off-peak time and you might get personally serenaded by the piano man. Go at a peak time and it's like you've walked into the church of Ethel Merman, where people form orderly queues, like a chorus line, and belt out Broadway classics like their big break in hanging in the balance.
