Brooklyn Inn
Black on the outside, with dark-oak ornate walls inside, the laid-back, neighborhoody Brooklyn Inn is like an English pub without the English. Things get pretty tight most nights, and it’s best on weekdays when chatty locals in work clothes bring their dogs and suck down $5 pints of Six Point ale, sometimes forgetting to re-feed the indie-rock jukebox. The bar is featured in the movie Smoke (1995).

Great Lakes
Set in the heart of Fifth Ave action, this simple corner bar brings out indie-rockers for beer and a jukebox that pays tribute to the little bands that could. Glass windows make the front sitting-area good if you want to see who’s going to Blue Ribbon Sushi next door.
