Among retro-crazed New Yorkers, a night of bowling qualifies as quite a hoot. Maybe it’s the shoes, or all the pitchers of beer. Open since 1938, Bowlmor is Manhattan’s go-to-lanes for stars, bar mitzvah parties and beer-slugging NYU students. After 9pm Monday, it goes DJ-blasting glow-in-the-dark, with unlimited bowling for $24 including shoe rental (age 21 and up).

    Good bowling, great location.

    Forget that Johnny-come-lately over at Port Authority -- Bowlmor is the classic bowl-o-rama in the city, perched over a hole-in-the-wall pizza joint on University Place a stone's throw from Union Square.

    Granted, when I was growing up on down the block we didn't have this fancy disco bowling with the glowsticks that all the kids are into these days, but Bowlmor is still the place to go when you want to knockdown ten pieces of wood with a large sphere of urethane resin in one hand and a drink in the other.
