One of the south’s premier universities boasts 22,000 students in 11 colleges and schools and big-name alumni like former French president Jacques Chirac, Republican firebrand Newt Gingrich, Jerry Springer and a very long list of Louisiana governors, judges and assorted politicos. The school sprawls across an attractive cluster of greens, red-brick buildings and quads north of Audubon Park – this is one of the prettiest colleges in the country, and well worth a stroll for anyone wanting to reclaim a sense of school days (or daze).
