Lonely Planet review for Botanical Gardens

Katrina utterly wiped out these beautiful 12-acre gardens, flooding the delicate plants in salt water and blacking out the electricity that regulated temperatures in the greenhouses. But it only took six months and the work and donations of a lot of volunteers and do-gooders before the gardens reopened. They’re not what they once were, but the plant life is growing and visitors are increasing – be one of them, and help bring back a city gem. On weekends and special events, pop into the New Orleans Historic Train Garden, a neat replica of old New Orleans intersected by G-gauge streetcars.
