Lonely Planet review
Among the country's best zoos, the Audubon Zoological Gardens contains the ultracool Louisiana Swamp exhibit, full of alligators, bobcats, foxes, bears and snapping turtles. The zoo cruise from Woldenberg Park, downtown, brings you here by riverboat.
The zoo has added some hi-tech attractions in recent years, including Safari Simulator Ride which works like a NASA simulator to make passengers experience the sensation of joining a jungle mission through a gorilla habitat. The same simulator is used to create virtual experiences like 'H20 Odyssey', in which passengers experience life as a raindrop, and other themes.
The Audubon Zoo Cruise offers a unique way to see the zoo and the Aquarium of the Americas in a day. Combined discount tickets for the riverboat cruise, zoo and aquarium are available. The boat departs the aquarium twice daily.
