Lonely Planet review for Café du Monde
Du Monde is overrated, but you're probably gonna go there, so here goes: the coffee is decent and the beignets (square, sugar-coated fritters) are inconsistent. The atmosphere is off-putting: you're a number forced through the wringer, trying to shout over Bob and Fran while they mispronounce 'jambalaya' and a street musician badly mangles John Lennon's 'Imagine.' At least it's open 24 hours - you might be able to capture some measure of noir-ish cool as the drunks stumble past in the Edward Hopper-esque wee hours.

awesome fried donuts

outdoor seating, gets crowded but your just having coffee and donuts so there is not a long wait, you can also get it to go as well. Super cheap, must try once on your trip

Staple of the city offers cheap treats 24 hours.
nolairie recommends this,
I've been going here ever since I was a child and each time it brings back fond memories. Here you can mingle with locals and tourists alike, all meeting to eat great little beingnets. Open 24 hours, but at times it can be hard to find a place to sit. Don't worry though because there is a walk up window for to-go orders.

Good Beignets
lefty22 recommends this,
One of my fondest memories of my trip to New Orleans includes Cafe Du Monde. My mother and I had got up very early to start our walking tour of the beautiful city. The sky was overcast at seven am that morning and a slight breeze blew off the mississippi. Suddenly we heard someone belt out " I feel Good, just like I knew I would", and the music that accompanied these words was so cool! There's not many places with that kind of atmosphere that early in the morning. And it did make us feel good. The beignets were great and the coffee out of this world. Don't skip this place while in New Orleans! It's a must.
