So many posts request the impossible - that a bunch of people who have never met you magically intuit how much you have to spend and what will make you happy on vacation, generally planning out your route for three months and helping you get discount flight reservations.
So, what can you do to get great travel advice?
1. Do your homework

In a few weeks I'm going to be on an Alaskan Cruise with my family, I'm pretty put off by the idea of a cruise and me and my husband were not on the ball with signing up for excursions on time which has left us with no set plans in Skagway.
I am wondering about climbing AB mountain. I'm finding some information about it on the internet but not the tiny details such as:
- Is it easy to get to the trailhead from the port? How do we do that?
- If we started the hike from Skagway how long (roughly)…
I'm Australian and planning to cycle from Winnipeg south towards the Mexican border (assuming there is no wall yet!). Probably do about 60-80kms a day. Will cycle to mid October and finish any unfinished kms next year.
I think I'll cycle on the quieter north/south roads - coming into lovely small town America with its diners and bottomless cups of coffee (unheard of in Australia !) and friendly folk. From previous visits (by car) and looking at web sites (e.g. Strava) it seems reasonably…
Two of us (mid 30s, outdoorsy, camping, hiking, canoeing types) are planning to travel to Alaska very soon as we have an opportunity to travel that we didn't anticipate. We have looked into the possible reservation dates to take the ferry from Prince Rupert to Skagway and there are a few options. I am hoping to get some feedback as we have never visited Alaska before. We have lots of experience camping in wilderness areas throughout the western United States (we live in Oregon). We are…
Hi There, I'm interested in doing a road trip from Vancouver down to LA. I've been reading some of the threads about renting cars & crossing the border. Does it make sense to rent a car in Vancouver, and then trade it in when we get to Seattle, and then take another car for the rest of the trip? Should I be looking into more car swaps? Does taking the train from Vancouver to Seattle make more sense? We'll be two adults traveling together. Thanks for your help!
Hi All - Never flown on New Years Day before - flying South West, San Diego to Chicago - don't know if there will be hordes of people or next to no one - asking because its a 6.30 am flight and would not like to get to the airport too early. Any experiences or opinions - it will be a bleary flight i guess.
I'm looking for pet & budget friendly accommodations between Los Angeles & San Francisco along coastal Highway 1- any tips? :D
