    ECHO Lake Aquarium & Science Center

    On the waterfront, ECHO will delight youngsters with its aquatic habitats wriggling with creatures and hands-on interactive exhibits illuminating Lake Champlain's ecological wonders.

  2. Maritime Aquarium

    This aquarium focuses on the marine life of the Long Island Sound, including sand tiger sharks, loggerhead turtles and harbor seals, whose daily feedings at 11:45am, 1:45pm and 3:45pm are a real treat. IMAX movies are also shown throughout the day for an additional fee. For a more hands-on experience, take a 2½-hour cruise on the research vessel Oceanic (per person $20.50). Cruises depart at 1pm daily in July and August, and on weekends in April through June and September.

    Woods Hole Science Aquarium

    The Woods Hole Science Aquarium has little flash and dazzle, but you’ll find unusual sea life specimens, examples of local fish and the Homarus americanus (aka lobster). Kids will enjoy the touch-tank creatures.

    New England Aquarium

    Teeming with sea creatures of all sizes, shapes and colors, this giant fishbowl was the first step Boston took to reconnect the city to the sea. Harbor seals and sea otters frolic in a large observation tank at the entrance, but the main attraction is a three-story cylindrical saltwater tank. It swirls with more than 600 creatures great and small, including turtles, sharks and eels. At the base of the tank the penguin pool is home to three species of fun-loving penguins. Countless side exhibits explore the lives and habitats of other underwater oddities, including exhibits on ethereal jellyfish and rare, exotic sea dragons.
