    Lonely Planet review

This historic Federalist- style hotel is at the very heart of Salem's center. For years it was the only full-service hotel, with 84 double rooms, a fancy (if staid) restaurant and a cozy pub. Rooms are decked out with reproduction 18th-century furnishings, so you can feel like a wealthy merchant from Salem's glory days. It also operates the Fidelia Bridges House, a small B&B in an 1807 federal house.

Our independent authors have visited Hawthorne Hotel and selected this as one of our recommended hotels in Salem.
