USA branch FAQ

This branch covers: Mainland USA, Hawaii & Alaska

So many posts request the impossible - that a bunch of people who have never met you magically intuit how much you have to spend and what will make you happy on vacation, generally planning out your route for three months and helping you get discount flight reservations.

So, what can you do to get great travel advice?

1. Do your homework
The web is filled with basic information like how far it is from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon, or how to…

What do you do when you fall in love with a place? You go there again and again. And that is what we did! This was our third trip to Alaska. After lot of planning around the dates and routes, we came up with an itinerary that allowed us enough time to explore and capture each place through the lens. This was a 7 day trip and we prepared ourselves to drive a lot.
Our trip started with flying to Anchorage from LA, then a drive to Denali National Park followed by a trip to Valdez with a stop over at…

Wisconsin in August

We are 3 adults and one 17 year old traveling with 3-4 days in Wisconsin. We'll start in Chicago (we'll be there for 4 days) and leaving from Milwaukee. Have heard of the 1,000 lakes of Wisconsin and that sounds lovely. We're looking for outdoor activities (kayaking/canoeing), swimming, easy hiking (the 17 yr old is disabled). Fun events/fairs would also be great. Unique lodgings and/or resort recommendations appreciated. Thanks.

Starting July 5, service will be cut at Braddock Road station (Alexandria, VA) for a week. That is south of the airport; if you're going to DC, it won't affect you, except for longer intervals between trains. Starting July 18, the break will be at Pentagon station, which is between the airport and DC. There will be…

Hai guys! ^_^

I'm currently conducting research into getting a J-1 visa after I graduate at the end of the year. The visa is designed for recent students to live/work/travel in the US for 12 months as a 'cultural exchange'. I will have completed a master of criminology, and pretty much hoping to work in a somewhat related field. Would anyone happen to have an idea of what the job market is like, or places I should look to find out? Particularly keen on the Chicago or Boston areas, they seem…

lake placid/ Adirondacks ( we have been and loved it)

Any ideas?? Thanks

Saw something interesting on the BBC about a US government proposal last week to ask for your social media username when you apply for an ESTA or get an I-94W form when you enter by land under the VWP.

Travellers seeking visa waiver entry to the US may soon be asked to list their social media profiles - if a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) proposal is enacted.
An update to application forms would ask users to identify what social networks they use and their "social media identifier" such…
