Nantucket Getting there & around

Getting there & around

Cape Air (800-352-0714; www.flycapeair.com) flies from Boston, Hyannis, Martha’s Vineyard and Providence to Nantucket Memorial Airport.

The Steamship Authority (508-477-8600; www.steamshipauthority.com; one-way adult/child 5-12 slow ferry $15/7, fast ferry $30/22) runs ferries throughout the day between Hyannis and Nantucket. The fast ferry takes an hour; the slow ferry 2¼ hours. The slow ferry takes cars, but the $360 round-trip fare aims to discourage visitors from adding to traffic congestion on Nantucket’s narrow streets.

Hy-Line Cruises (508-228-3949; www.hylinecruises.com; one-way adult/child 5-12 $27.50/16) operates a daily boat between Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard from mid-June to mid-September (two hours). Hy-Line also runs passenger ferries between Hyannis and Nantucket at rates and schedules similar to the Steamship Authority’s.

Once you’re on Nantucket, getting around is a snap. The NRTA Shuttle (508-228-7025; www.shuttlenantucket.com; rides $1-2, day pass $7; late May-late Sep) operates buses around town and to ’Sconset and the beaches.
