Getting around
The Martha’s Vineyard Regional Transit Authority (508-693-9440; www.vineyardtransit.com; 1-/3-day pass $6/15) operates a network of buses that travel frequently between all towns. It’s a practical way to get around and you can even reach out-of-the-way destinations like the Gay Head Cliffs by bus.
The most convenient car-rental company is Budget (508-693-1911) with locations near the Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven ferry terminals and at the airport. Adventure Rentals (508-693-1959; 7 Beach Rd, Vineyard Haven) rents mopeds, 4WDs and regular cars.Car-rental rates vary with demand – expect to pay around $100 daily in midsummer; mopeds cost around $65. Be aware that Vineyarders disdain mopeds – and accidents are common.
