If you’re traveling by car, Litchfield lies 34 miles west of Hartford and 36 miles south of Great Barrington, MA, in the Berkshires.

No buses stop in Litchfield proper, but Bonanza Bus Lines (800-556-3815) will get you to Torrington, the closest major town, from NYC ($20, 2½ hours), via Danbury and Waterbury. From Torrington to Litchfield, you really need your own wheels.
