In the space of about a mile there are upwards of 120 outlet shops lining US 1 in Kittery. Of all the stores, the Kittery Trading Post is the most interesting retail spot. Opened in 1926, this was the town’s original outpost and still sells a wide range of outdoor clothing and gear.

Cap & Patty
For a cruise along the Piscataqua, Cap & Patty offers river tours, taking in the lighthouses, forts and the Navy yard around the basin. Tours last approximately 80 minutes and are offered six times per day in the summer.

To escape the mediocrity of chain restaurants along US 1, head south to Kittery’s harbor. Cap’n Simeon’s serves hearty plates of seafood (haddock, lobster, sea scallops) as well as quiche, salads and, yes, fried fare.
