Getting there & away
Vermont Transit (800-552-8737; www.vermonttransit.com) runs one daily bus between Brattleboro and Middlebury ($25 to $27, three hours) via Rutland, where there are connecting buses northward. The bus stops behind the Citgo station (802-254-6066) at the intersection of US 5 and I-91.
The Amtrak (800-872-7245; www.amtrak.com) Vermonter train stops in Brattleboro. The trip from New York City to Brattleboro costs $52 to $57 one way.
By car, it takes 1ΒΌ hours (40 miles) to traverse scenic VT 9 from Brattleboro to Bennington. From Northampton, MA, it takes less than an hour (40 miles) straight up I-91 to reach Brattleboro.
While Brattleboro is very easy to get around on foot, you can call Brattleboro Taxi (802-254-6446) for transportation beyond its limits.
