On Napa's riverfront in the historic brick Hatt Building (an 1884 grain/brick mill), this business-class inn has plush amenities like triple-sheeted beds and bathrobes. But there's a huge difference in character between the eight opulent 'historic deluxe' rooms in the landmark building and the 58 in the circa-2000, corporate-feeling Embarcadero Building. Dogs are welcome (request a pet amenity kit).
The gorgeous historic rooms are the real treat, with original floors (built with wood taken from the town skating rink) working fireplaces, antique claw-foot tubs with dual showerheads, and French doors to the bedroom. Steam trunks lie at the foot of the beds, which are decked out in opulent reds and golds. In the hallways, you can smell the sweet croissants from the bakery downstairs (providing the complimentary breakfast). Some rooms have balconies with river views. The newer Embarcadero Building rooms try hard to blend in, with 'antiqued' furniture and either a masculine gold-and-brown color scheme or a nautical theme, but the exposed brick is new and looks a little fake. For a little extra, get your amenity kit for Fido: a doggie bed, cookies and chardonnay doggie biscuits.
