Miami Work & study

Work

Foreigners cannot work legally in the USA without the appropriate work visa, and recent legislative changes specifically target illegal immigrants, which is what you will be if you try to work on a tourist visa.

Miami is ground zero for large numbers of refugees from the Caribbean, notably Haiti and Cuba, so INS checks are frequent. Local businesses are probably more concerned here than anywhere outside Southern California and Texas when it comes to verifying your legal status.

One viable option is to find work on the cruise liners or yachts in the region, which can employ anyone since they operate in international waters.

Business hours

Office hours in Miami operate on the usual 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday schedule, with some larger branches having Saturday morning hours as well. Shops usually stay open for business till later, depending on the neighborhood, with 9pm being the typical closing time in malls or other shopping districts. Some restaurants close on Mondays, while many of the nightclubs only operate from Wednesday or Thursday through the weekend.
